Mariokart Wii
added on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 23:39 pm
I would like to admit that I am officially hooked by Mariokart Wii, the new arcade racing game by Nintendo. Blame it on a) the super-easy and gripping steering-wheel-control made possible by the Wii-remote’s tilt sensors and b) the phantastic possibilities to play online, so that you always find fellow-racers from around the world. My Mariokart Friend Code is 1547-5450-7658. Send me your via mail or here in the comments. See you on Moo Moo Meadows! ¬ Comments
Notwist: "The Devil, You + Me"
added on Saturday, May 10, 2008 23:34 pm
I already wrote about “The Devil, You + Me”, the new album of indie electro-rock veterans The Notwist. I was listening to the mp3s for a month and just got the CD. This is one of my favourite albums ever. ¬ Full Entry
All Streets

Interesting new work coming from Ben Fry, one of the leading and most creative experts on data visualization. All he did for All Streets was to take all the road data of the United States and print them out. Although he did not add any more to it, a lot can be seen in these images: The roads adapt to mountains and rivers and show a lot about the density and structures of the population. And—the most astonishing feature—it is beautiful, full of overwhelming detail, oscillating between structure and entropy. ¬ Comments
Jot by Erik Natzke
added on Tuesday, Apr 01, 2008 21:10 pm
It is always a pleasure to see someone working on something with all his heart. For example, Erik Natzke developing a digital painting/drawing engine in Flash. He does not drop a lot about his techniques, but the stream of phantastic imagery on jot.eriknatzke.com is steady. I expecially love this (small version on the left), this and this. ¬ Comments
Troika's "Cloud" sculpture
added on Sunday, Feb 17, 2008 20:07 pm
This digital sculpture by Troika floats now in Heathrows Terminal 5 hall. It is fully covered with flip-dots known from displays in stations and airports. These dots are controlled digitally, forming shapes, lines and patterns all over the cloud. Video after the break: ¬ Full Entry
Terminal Mirage by David Maisel
added on Saturday, Jan 26, 2008 22:15 pm
Awesome images by american photographer David Maisel. I would recommend to start with the bird’s-eye views of the Great Salt Lake, Terminal Mirage. The rest is different, but also very good. ¬ Comments
"Pick A Price" at 2nd Rec.
added on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 9:24 am
There is an interesting special offer going on at 2nd Rec. from Hamburg. You can pick a CD from their back catalogue, they send it to you, you listen to it. And THEN you can pay the price you find suitable. If you don’t like it, you pay nothing. If you do, you pay what you find appropriate.
I ordered “The Academic Rise of Falling Drifters”, a remix album from Giardini di Miro. Remix albums are often a mixed bag, I don’t think I would have bought it otherwise. So far I am halfway through the first track, done by my all time favourite Styrofoam. Together with the beautiful cover artwork, this is already a winner.
It is definitely too early to speak of a trend here. But after Radiohead’s album release last month this is the second time professionals give out music on a pay-as-you-like basis. In both cases I feel very good about not wasting money on music I do not know yet. And in both cases: I like the music, so I will pay.
UPDATE: Paid 12 Euro.

A History of T-shirts
added on Monday, Sep 03, 2007 20:34 pm
Since I was old enough to go to concerts I am totally crazy about T-shirts. Today is a sad day, because I had to get rid of some, as my dresser is totally cramped and T-shirts are not supposed to be worn forever. Let me show you some of the most honourable T’s as I am wearing them the last time today and the stories behind them. ¬ Full Entry

Since I began browsing the web in 1996 this has been the place to go for gorgeous, witty and free icons: The Iconfactory. The two highlights coming with the rehaul are:
- The sweet pixel-animations that lead up to the launch, full of intelligent and loony detail. Kick back and enjoy !
- Amora iconset and theme. This one is worth an extra post.
