I came across this interesting version of pinhole photography, called Solargraphy: Photos that are not taken over seconds, but in weeks or even months. The sun draws lines over the sky, showing its seasonal shifting from day to day. Beautiful and eerie images with elegant lines emerge. I collected some of my favorites. ¬ Full Entry
Vincent Fournier Science & Tech Photography
added on Tuesday, Jul 20, 2010 20:18 pm
Vincent Fournier takes pictures of scientific and technological themes and places. Interesting both from a journalistic as well as an aesthetic viewpoint, this is a tremendous catalog of stunning imagery to flick through. He also has a new website, which is unfortunately build entirely in Flash again. Have a look! www.vincentfournier.co.uk
8 Faces Typography Mag
added on Friday, Jul 16, 2010 17:10 pm
I just bought a copy of this fresh new print magazine. (Yes, these days you need to mention that it is a PRINT magazine.) The designer and publisher Elliot Jay Stocks asks eight designers what typefaces they would choose if they could use only eight for the rest of their lives. I'm especially interested in Jessica Hische, Jason Santa Maria, Jos Buivenga and Jon Tan. Erik Spiekermann is also among them, he will mostly choose his own fonts. The design of the magazine seems to be up to par with the content, judging from the photos on the site. (Although I personally don‘t like the cover with eight portraits crammed into the negative space of a big eight.)

Johannes Heuckeroth, one of my students at the Ohm Hochschule Nürnberg started a new daily photography blog. Each day he posts a new shot of the sky. Great idea, beautiful execution.

The Visual Mixtape posters
added on Thursday, May 20, 2010 23:24 pm
Noa Emberson took 25 of his favourite music albums and made 25 posters out of them. The titles, the lyrics, some layout lines and shapes, plus a big backdrop photography. Nothing special you might say. But Noa‘s feeling for juxtaposition, color palettes and typographic structure let me gasp in awe. So beautiful. My favourite is Iron & Wine‘s Our Endless Numbered Days (above).
Iceland volcano time lapse video

Sean Stiegemeier went to Iceland and took some time-lapse shots from and around Eyjafjallajökull. Gorgeous. (And on a side-note: How can it be this guy still has no sponsor? Look at the view stats on the vimeo page! Over half a million views! Seriously.)
Ephemicropolis by Peter Root

Artist Peter Root made this gorgeous miniature cities from stacks of staples and then photographed them. The making-of video contains some sweet time-lapse shots. Also check the other works on his site, some great ideas there!
Volcano photos on Stromboli Online

Lightning strikes within Eyafallajökull’s ash column. If this were from a movie or a fantasy illustration, I would consider this to be totally over the top. But this is real photography, albeit with long exposure time. Gorgeous! Check out the other images.
Hipstamatic Nature

I took last week off and roamed about with the family. And wherever I went, I was snapping pictures with the Hipstamatic app. I did not think that a mobile phone will change the way I think about photography. But so it goes. Enjoy! Feel free to comment here or on Flickr. ¬ Full Entry

Linn portraits with Hipstamatic on the iPhone
added on Tuesday, Apr 06, 2010 21:03 pm
The Hipstamatic iPhone photography app I bought today is lots and lots of fun! It processes the images taken by the rather low-tech camera simulating old analog cheap cameras. The photos are blurred, color-shifted and framed in a convincing vintage look. And the app design is also enjoyable, although it sets the focus on “toy”, rather than “photography”. ¬ Full Entry

A happy coincidence at my desk at the Warriors: Collage work for a client’s booklet leaving random paper snippets behind, plus trying out the macro and depth-of-field-setting of my new digicam. ¬ Full Entry
