It's just a phone

Today there where some rumors again of Steve Jobs answering mails from iPhone users. Be them fake or not, I like Mr Job‘s attitude when he finishes a heated conversation about signal strength with these words:

“retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.”

These are the most sane words I heard this week. That‘s why I celebrate them with a custom-made iPhone wallpaper: Download here. This puts things in perspective when the next “Oooooh, is this the new iPhone 4?” comes along. It‘s just a phone!

ps.: Of course I made this with a resolution fit for the retina display: 640 × 960 pixels. ¬ Comments

Cricket Alert Sound

added on Wednesday, Jul 25, 2007 8:42 am

It's not an easy task to find good alert sounds for Mac OS X. If you are bored of "Ping" and "Hero" and the other default ones, I really don't know where to get quality alternatives that are short, sweet and do not get on your nerves after hearing them three times. But now I think I have found the perfect alert sound: ¬ Full Entry

You know this moment: There is this special song coming up on iTunes, that really rocks. You would like to tell the whole world how much you LOVE THAT SONG! Well, there is a hot little web app named Twitter that lets you post online what you are up to right now. What could be more obvious to bring these two things together and write an AppleScript? Start TwiTunes.scpt, click ok and the currently playing iTunes track is sent to your Twitter status in a nicely formatted string. ¬ Full Entry

Amora

Amora Icons

Spacey, science-fictionesque, and -- as always in David Lanham's works -- cute and quirky: The new full-desktop-make-over Amora from the Iconfactory. It's a complete system replacement icon set (also with many application icons) and a Shapeshifter Theme.

Although this time the icons are not so usable and suited for every-day-working conditions as in Lanham's last hit Agua, the level of clever detail is once again astonishing. Digging through the 129 reveals true gems in pixel art. Some pieces are a little too "loud" in my book for using it full-time. But I found several beauties to replace app icons and the like, that will surely brighten up my days in the next week.

The same holds true for the Amora theme. Although I'm not sure yet if I can stand it for working-mode, it is really well thought-out, beautiful and full of great details. I expecially LOVE the progress indicator and the DVD controller. Amazing.

Iconfactory.com v.6.0

added on Sunday, Aug 06, 2006 18:25 pm

Since I began browsing the web in 1996 this has been the place to go for gorgeous, witty and free icons: The Iconfactory. The two highlights coming with the rehaul are:

  1. The sweet pixel-animations that lead up to the launch, full of intelligent and loony detail. Kick back and enjoy !
  2. Amora iconset and theme. This one is worth an extra post.

Creepo

Photo of the stitched Creepo-Beanie

We’re deep into january and it’s dark all day long, and much colder than it should be. I really thank my mom for the hand-knitted wollen beanie for christmas. Keeps my ears warm and cosy.

To make it a little bit more attractive to the eyes too, I stitched a little character on it. I definitely have a soft spot for video game villains, so after a little pixel-doodle it ended up with this cross-breed of the Pac-Man ghost and a default Space Invader with two horns. I called it Creepo.

To get my powerbook through these cold days as well, I also created a darkish-green desktop image with the little fellow, for your downloading pleasure here. ¬ Full Entry

Agua

Most of you should know by now that there is a nice and steady flow of gorgeous freeware icons coming from the iconfactory. But this is extraordinary: David Lanham, iconfactory employee and already one of my favorite icon artists, created a new system replacement set for Mac OS X, the crown of all icon artistry. It titled Agua and became my new default system set in seconds. ¬ Full Entry
