What is this about tints?

UPDATE: The tint switcher is currently on hiatus, due to maintencance. :)

Ok, so you have a website. It took months to get everything right, the colors, the layout, the typography. But even the most sophisticated web design will start to bore you after some time online. That is why on tint.de you can switch between different website designs, called "tints".

This is possible because the real content comes from a mysql database and so is perfectly seperated from the visual presentation. You can choose from several "tints" (sets of (php-generated) XHTML and CSS), that all display the same structured database content, in visually different ways. I can redesign this site and add new tints anytime. Still I keep all the existing content and all former tints. You can see and switch to all tints by clicking the tints-tag.

Switching the design by providing different CSS files is popular these days, best example is the CSS Zen Garden. CSS is a very powerful tool, but has limitations, some due to the imperfect implementation throughout browsers. This is why I decided to also switch the XHTML document. This way, I keep all the present and future possibilities of modern web design. Even if I want to do it all in Flash, I can! I hope this will keep things interesting for you, dear reader, and for myself.
