Family member #4 on the way
added on Wednesday, Apr 28, 2010 18:09 pm

The last time I posted one of those blurry black and white images like the one above is is not even two years ago. And today already here is a new one: We could not be any happier and more proud to announce that the fourth member of our little family is already on the way! We are going to get another baby, presumably around September 24. And this time it‘s a boy! The future looks bright, dear readers!
The process of finding a name has already started…
Ephemicropolis by Peter Root

Artist Peter Root made this gorgeous miniature cities from stacks of staples and then photographed them. The making-of video contains some sweet time-lapse shots. Also check the other works on his site, some great ideas there!

via unitzeroone.com Killer Flash experiment starring fluid geometric objects mirroring the environment. I don't think many of you thought this is possible in Flash, did you?
Life in 2050 Identity by Future Deluxe

Abstract generative 3D motion piece by Future Deluxe for the coming "Life in 2050" exhibition. Perfectly matching sound as well.
Volcano photos on Stromboli Online

Lightning strikes within Eyafallajökull’s ash column. If this were from a movie or a fantasy illustration, I would consider this to be totally over the top. But this is real photography, albeit with long exposure time. Gorgeous! Check out the other images.
Can I preorder this iPhone (4G/HD/whatever) already?
added on Tuesday, Apr 20, 2010 9:12 am
Gizmodo claims to have found one of the next iPhones, rumored to be released end of June 2010. The reasons I post this:
a) I want one. Desperately.
b) I find it very interesting, how this unit came into Gizmodo‘s hands. They say somebody found it on the floor in a bar, disguised as a iPhone 3G. Maybe someone wants to buy the movie rights?
c) There is a lot of nervousness, giddy hands and excitement to be felt if you look closer behind Gizmodo‘s pseudo-professional facade. Fan-boyism at its best. Just look at the shaky camera of the videos.
Edit: The story on Gizmodo, the story behind it, and this is already all over the interwebs, including satiric puppet videos .

Atmostheory Graphics

Nature, astronomy, science fiction, geometry, great color & texture combos. There's just no way for me to NOT like these graphic works by Atmostheory.
Little Wheel flash game
added on Saturday, Apr 17, 2010 22:04 pm
Steer a cute little robot in this flash game by OneClickDog and save robot city! It‘s a simple point-and-click adventure and the puzzles are of the easy kind. But thanks to the detailed tasteful and supersweet animation style and the jazzy music, your 15 minutes with this game will be well spent.
Generated 3D artworks by depotArt
added on Thursday, Apr 15, 2010 21:30 pm
Abstract virtual sculptures by a small design studio from Ravensburg, Germany. Algorithmically generated, they say. It is interesting how much more I like it in the simple HTML-page as on But Does It Float (where I have seen it first) as in the original Flash-Interface at the studio site.
»Umbrella« animated short by Philip Vose
added on Thursday, Apr 15, 2010 21:16 pm
Umbrella is a short film created by Philip Vose for his character animation class at Cal Arts. The archetype story of good and bad is told once again, but so detailed and surprising, that all 171 seconds of it are a joy to watch.
Development of Adobe's CS5 branding

From Veerle‘s blog: Some insight into how the new package, icon and interface designs for the just-announced Adobe Creative Suite 5 came together. I love the use of color and especially the new splash screens (above), but the consistency and simplicity might get dull if they do another release on the same tracks.

SolarBeat musical animation

From whitevinyldesign.com: Simple but sweet animation of our solar system that triggers rhythmic sound effects. Nearly music, but not quite. And beautiful. Leave it running for a few minutes!
Flight through Mandelbox fractal
added on Tuesday, Apr 13, 2010 21:23 pm
It looks like a giant alien spacecraft, but it‘s a fractal structure, generated by a mathematics algorithm. The light, shadow and the red haze is rendered. Watching in HD recommended!
Hipstamatic Nature
added on Monday, Apr 12, 2010 23:16 pm

I took last week off and roamed about with the family. And wherever I went, I was snapping pictures with the Hipstamatic app. I did not think that a mobile phone will change the way I think about photography. But so it goes. Enjoy! Feel free to comment here or on Flickr. ¬ Full Entry
Solomon font from Fontfabric

A fine retro-modern geometric sans typeface with additional decorative styles. Reminds me of Avantgarde and Futura, with a playful twist. The normal weight is available for free until May 10!
Type design at 26plus-zeichen.de
added on Saturday, Apr 10, 2010 21:59 pm
Phantastic type design from german students going on at 26plus-zeichen.de: Initiated by three young designers this website shows works in progress as well as finished fonts in detail and with lots of background info.
There are also three fonts available for free download (for non-commercial projects): A geometric »Edelsans« (pictured above), a super-condensed »Singula« and a rather daring display font called »Fracmetrica«. Keep it up, guys!

Linn portraits with Hipstamatic on the iPhone
added on Tuesday, Apr 06, 2010 21:03 pm
The Hipstamatic iPhone photography app I bought today is lots and lots of fun! It processes the images taken by the rather low-tech camera simulating old analog cheap cameras. The photos are blurred, color-shifted and framed in a convincing vintage look. And the app design is also enjoyable, although it sets the focus on “toy”, rather than “photography”. ¬ Full Entry

High Houses by Lebbeus Woods
added on Sunday, Apr 04, 2010 22:11 pm
An architectural concept that is not likely to be see the light of day: In the former battlegrounds of Sarajevo, these houses shall rise up high into the airspace once occupied by falling mortar and artillery shells fired by the city’s besiegers in the surrounding mountains. By occupying the airspace, the High Houses reclaim it for the people of the city.
Poetic, beautiful and a great concept. The drawings alone are worth a look.
David Maisel :: Photography :: The Forest
added on Sunday, Apr 04, 2010 11:34 am
One visual idea I cannot get enough of for years now is the juxtaposition of nature and abstraction. A perfect example for that contrast is this series of photographies by David Maisel. At first it seems to be an abstract painting, but looking closer you see that these are tree logs in a frozen lake, from a bird's eye view.
