Advent calendar 2009
added on Saturday, Dec 05, 2009 19:16 pm

24 pieces of candy, a framed canvas, colored paper, several hours of cutting, glueing and building: This is how the handcrafted advent calendar for my wife looks like this year. ¬ Full Entry
What I do/don't do

First I admit that this is heavily inspired by works of others. Venn diagrams and storytelling by infographics is popular these days. Here is my take, dealing with aims and constraints. ¬ Full Entry
Fractures
added on Wednesday, Oct 21, 2009 21:10 pm

Four more fracture graphics. Two of them are published in the Warrior‘s new issue number 3 of Licht magazine. This also means: I‘m back in business after my two months off with the family!
Unfortunately my new website is currently spread in pieces all over the place. Some parts work already, but the front end still needs lots of love. Let‘s see when I can get back to it, now that my day job and university teaching have started… ¬ Full Entry
Elternzeit etc.
added on Friday, Sep 04, 2009 22:42 pm
Hello dear visitors. Things have been a little slow here. This is because:
- a) Tweets do not get through to this blog anymore, because of Gnip‘s spotty behaviour.
- b) I am on Elternzeit (parent time) now. That means that I do not work. Not at all. And I still get money from the german government. Neat, isn‘t it? For the time from August until middle of October, I will stay with my wife and baby Linn, which is obviously absolutely fabulous. And if I can find some time between pushing the stroller and enjoying the last days of summer, I will spend it on c)...
- c) I am building a new Content Management for this site in the back. I would like to be able to post faster and shorter and tie in the feeds from Flickr, Twitter and Del.icio.us. The current idea is to build on the very clever Sweetcron, create a custom theme and add all the functionality that I am missing by myself. Fortunately Sweetcron was done on the php framework CodeIgniter, therefore it is clearly structured and relatively easy to build upon. Still I don‘t know where this is going and if I can get it off the ground, but it‘s fun so far.
For a look at my offline activities, please drop by on my Flickr page. See you soon! ¬ Comments

The dilemma with personal publishing and how Gnip might save it
added on Wednesday, Jul 08, 2009 21:13 pm
A few months ago I came across a new internet service named Gnip. Although it looks very technical and abstract at first look, it may be the key to a bad dilemma of personal publishing on the web today. Here is why, and my experiences of using it for this site. ¬ Full Entry

When people talk about the new Transformers movie and mention "how good the textures are", something bad happened to the magic of cinema. (Twitter) ¬ Comments

Kreuth Mountaintop
added on Sunday, Jun 07, 2009 20:01 pm
A quick drawing of a mountaintop near Kreuth in the alps. It is much more about komposition and texture (and the feeling of a pen on paper) than naturalism. Another take here: ¬ Full Entry
