NIN: Ghosts I

First of all, it is totally Nine Inch Nails: Sounds like recorded at a expensive studio (which it probably is), has roots in Industrial and Heavy Metal and has that distinctive darker mood of all NIN releases.
I like a lot that it is completely instrumental. Running time is 1,8 hours, which is a lot of music for 5$. The whole album sounds like Trent Reznor (the man behind NIN) and some of his musician friends were just jamming away and then they pressed record. Listening closer you recognize there must have been a lot of careful editing to generate a homogenous whole. Lots and lots of brilliant sound ideas keep it interesting. A nice flow of drone-y parts and heavier beats, sprinkled with surprising combinations, unusual instruments and digital effects. The best: Although “arty” and bold it is so balanced that it never gets unnerving or too freaky.
This balance together with the long running time make it the perfect background music for working. Don’t get me wrong, that is something very hard to do. The self-published album download is only 5$, so I highly recommend it. The first part is even available for free (!), so there is no reason why you should not give it a try.
